Tteokguk is a traditional Korean food rice cake soup which has been enjoyed on a new year holiday. Tteokguk (Korean rice cake) symbolizes prosperity and longevity, which is why it has been enjoyed on a new year holiday. Koreans often ask “did you eat tteoguk?” On a New Years day as a new year greeting to commemorate a new year and that you are a year older. Tteokguk features a savory and flavorful broth with chewy rice cakes. It's an easy-to-make and healthy food option. The soft texture of the rice cakes blends harmoniously with the fragrant broth, creating a unique and deep flavor. The rich taste of the meat and the chewiness of the rice cakes come together to provide a warm and comforting sensation, especially during the chilly winter, making it a dish that spreads warmth throughout the mouth.

So why don’t we all get year older after eating Tteokguk?

INGREDIENTS

(2 servings)

400g Rice cake for soup (tteokguk tteok): 400g

100g Beef stew meat

Hanwoo broth tablets Add to cart

50 oz of Water

2 Eggs

1 stem Green onions

1T Sesame oil

1T Cooking oil

Little bit of Crumbled Gim (Nori)

1T Minced garlic

2T Soy sauce

1T Cooking oil

Pepper

 

HOW TO MAKE

  1. Soak the rice cake for soup (tteokguk tteok) thoroughly in water for 30 mins to 1 hour.
  2. In a heated pan, add cooking oil and sesame oil, then stir-fry the beef.
  3. Stir-fry the beef until it's slightly cooked.
  4. Pour 50 oz of water into the pan where you stir-fried the beef. Add 3 Kevin's Choice Hanwoo beef bone broth tablets and bring it to a boil.
  5. Remove the foam to achieve a clean broth taste.
  6. Prepare beaten eggs.
  7. Cook half of the beaten eggs in a frying pan to make garnish.
  8. Slice the cooked eggs and set aside.
  9. Add the soaked rice cake to the boiling broth. Add minced garlic (1 spoon) and soy sauce (2 spoons).
  10. Gradually pour the remaining half of the beaten eggs into the broth, stirring the soup.
  11. Garnish with chopped green onions, crumbled gim, and sliced egg strips.
  12. Enjoy your delicious tteokguk!
